AONIX Releases UltraQuest Gateway

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — September 25, 2001 - Aonix, a member of the Gores Technology Group and a leading provider of S/390 reporting and data access tools announced today the immediate availability of UltraQuest™ Gateway. The Gateway works with the S/390-based UltraQuest Servers to deliver real-time business critical reporting solutions to users via UNIX and Windows NT Web servers. Its use can reduce the resources used on the mainframe, provide tighter security, and improve user response time.

UltraQuest servers provide end users with easy Web access to S/390 data sources, including IBM’s DB2 for OS/390 or VM, VSAM, IMS, IDMS, Teradata, NOMAD and QSAM. Users can execute ad-hoc or cataloged reports through their Web browser, with output delivered through the browser, printers, or email for viewing or use with products like Microsoft Excel.

The new UltraQuest Gateway handles Web server processing on an intermediate UNIX or Windows machine. The Gateway allows sites to provide mainframe Web usage without exposing the mainframe to direct browser access. It handles both intermediate and host security, allowing local control of access to the host, as well as host control using SAF compatible products.

"Some of our customers are leery of connecting Web users directly to their production mainframe servers." noted Scot Stoney, Director of Marketing for Enterprise Business Intelligence Solutions at Aonix. "The Gateway isolates the mainframe, adding the use of mid-tier security and administration to all the features of the UltraQuest mainframe server. In addition, by handling all static files on the mid-tier server, it reduces the use of mainframe resources. For IT, this represents tighter control and security while achieving cost savings as well."

UltraQuest, which includes a mainframe-based application server, works through a Web server to provide three services:

UltraQuest Reporter: for interactive, real-time access to reports and data extracts from mainframe data sources

UltraQuest Library: a shared library of reports, published from UltraQuest Reporter, which are available through Web browser menus

UltraQuest Applications: custom applications, built using the UltraQuest server and the underlying UltraQuest 4GL. These applications may involve reports as well as data queries and updates.
