and Component-based Development” Book
Addison-Wesley published the new CBD book in their Component Software
SeriesBOULDER, Colorado April 17, 2003 — Select Business
Solutions, Inc a Gores Technology Group operating company, today announced
the launch of “Service- and Component-based Development – Using the Select
Perspective™ and UML” book by Hedley Apperly et al. This book is in print
and is available through many leading online bookstores.
The Select Perspective, from Select Business Solutions, is a set of best
practices for software development that has evolved over a decade into a
world-class Service- and Component-based Development process. It is a
blend of approaches from several object-oriented methods, improved and
adapted to meet the new demands of CBD and Web Services.
The Service- and Component-based Development techniques are ideally suited
to Web Services. The approach allows the abstraction and simplification of
the application enabling well architected distributed solutions, while
identifying problems earlier in the lifecycle. Select’s approach has been
proven by its customers to improve productivity, quality and
communications.
“The new Select Perspective represents a considerable advance on earlier
processes and provides a mature guidance that is clearly based on deep and
extensive practical experience”, comments David Sprott, CEO and Principal
Analyst of CBDI Forum. “Today, the new Select Perspective provides
detailed advice on how to achieve the real business benefits that come
from a mature software delivery process that is predicated on the managed
collaboration of supply, management and consumption of activities”.
“This book offers clients a process and framework for delivering quality
applications on time and within budget with maximum reuse potential”,
explains Hedley Apperly, VP Marketing, Select Business Solutions. “We use
the Select Perspective Process internally and have found, in line with our
customers’ experience, that our internal reuse of application components
now runs at about 40%. This means we have more time available to extend
and improve the functionality we offer our clients within our toolsets”,
continued Apperly.
The book is collaboratively written by 7 Authors namely Hedley Apperly,
Ralph Hofman, Steve Latchem, Barry Maybank, Barry McGibbon, David Piper
and Chris Simons. These authors are all senior managers or consultants at
Select Business Solutions and have a combined working knowledge which has
been built up from their experience of helping 100’s of customers develop
and deliver business driven IT solutions.
The book is published though Addison-Wesley ISBN # 0-321-15985-3.
