Select Congratulates IBM on its 40th Anniversary of the System/360

Select Business Solutions, since in inception as National CSS in 1967, has been utilizing the power and innovation of the IBM System/360 and its successors including the IBM zSeries 900, zSeries 990, zSeries 800, and in the future the newly announced zSeries 890. Starting out in 1967 as a startup computer timesharing company, we used some of the first IBM System/360 mainframes to offer our services and run the business.

Since those early computer timesharing days of the 1960s and 1970s, we transformed into a software company in the early 1980s offering our premier, NOMAD Fourth Generation Language (4GL) product for IBM mainframes under the IBM VM and MVS operating systems. With NOMAD, we were the first to develop read/write 4GL interfaces to IBM's DB2 for z/OS (OS/390) and DB2 for VM databases.

More recently, we have introduced the UltraQuest products which offer Web-based solutions for ad hoc reporting, report publishing and execution, and custom applications for mainframe data including IBM’s DB2 and IMS.

Being a member of IBM's PartnerWorld for Developers provides Select with access to IBM's global resources for developers building and selling software in the commercial marketplace. It provides us access to marketing and sales support, technical support, testing centers, and access to hardware, software, and education.

We continually modify our products to work with new features in the operating systems and databases, taking advantage of advance information provided by IBM to our development and marketing groups. We have participated in campaigns for a number of innovations, including CUA, Information Warehouses, and e-business initiatives.

Select participates in many IBM conferences and events, as well as in early testing programs for new releases of VM and z/OS operating systems and DB2 database systems. Recently, Select has been on the leading edge with its support of IBM's z/Series pricing initiatives, providing alternatives to full machine-based pricing.
