Easy access to IDMS databases

NOMAD's interface to IDMS offers flexible and efficient access to data in IDMS. NOMAD's report writer, decision support, database browser and application development facilities provide users with a full range of capabilities that address a broad spectrum of reporting and analysis requirements.

NOMAD's interfaces to other mainframe data sources, such as DB2 for z/OS, DB2 for z/VM, IMS, and Teradata' database , make it easy to link information from multiple sources with IDMS data. Users have a consistent view of the data because NOMAD retrieval and analysis commands operate identically on all supported file types with no special sub-environments to access.

Workstation users can also access mainframe data, including IDMS, using RP/Server, Select's high-performance middleware.

Designed for Efficient Use

NOMAD's interface to IDMS features an interactive Schema generator that simplifies and speeds the process of data definition. NOMAD's interface is designed to use the IDMS database efficiently by communicating NOMAD requests directly to IDMS and processing the resulting data. The NOMAD Schema greatly reduces the amount of program coding required since it defines items just once and makes them available to all users. The information needed to access IDMS data is stored in the NOMAD Schema, eliminating the need to retrieve information each time that data is accessed.

The NOMAD interface supports "smart" data selection when IDMS keys are used as NOMAD keys. NOMAD support efficient keyed retrieval for IDMS CALC keys, INDEX keys and sorted set keys.

NOMAD also support efficient retrieval of IDMS logical records by converting NOMAD SELECT expressions into IDMS WHERE expressions.

Support for IDMS Version 12

With support for IDMS Version 12, which provides for the IDMS/SQL Option, NOMAD can provide read-only access to IDMS/SQL tables by passing an SQL SELECT statement directly to the database engine.
