NOMAD 7.50 Groupdate
  NOMAD 7.50 - GROUPDATE

New GROUPDATE Function used for grouping dates according to specified periodicity

The new GROUPDATE function is used for converting all dates in a period to the first date in that period so that one can easily summarize data into monthly, quarterly, or annual periods.

Example 1: Using simple periods of MONTHS, QUARTERS, and YEARS

  >print GROUPDATE('13 May 2005', MONTHS)
as date'dd Month yyyy' fold
GROUPDATE('13 May 2005', QUARTERS)
as date'dd Month yyyy' fold
GROUPDATE('13 May 2005', YEARS)
as date'dd Month yyyy'

01 May 2005
01 April 2005
01 January 2005

The date is converted to the first day of the month, then the first day of the quarter, and finally the first day of the year.

Example 2: Using frequency to collect all dates in a decade:

  >print GROUPDATE ('13 May 2005', YEARS*10
as date'dd Month yyyy' fold
GROUPDATE('13 May 2011', YEARS*10)
as date'dd Month yyyy'01 January 2000

01 January 2010

The "YEARS*10" specification causes a date to be converted to the first date in its decade.
