UltraQuest
4.5 |
 |
This exciting new release of UltraQuest delivers major enhancements of all three
components of UltraQuest: Reporter, Library,
and Applications.
New Features below:
UltraQuest Reporter provides ad-hoc (interactive) reporting to business
users. Through a desktop Java application, the Reporter helps users to access
mainframe database information and generate reports or data extracts. Its
dialogs include an innovative wizard to facilitate building, modifying, and
running reports.
Report processing can be either immediate (online) or delayed (batch). The
output can be delivered in a number of ways, including through email, back to
the Web browser, to mainframe attached printers, or to a holding area which
allows subsequent redistribution to any of the other targets. In addition,
UltraQuest Reporter users, if granted publishing rights, may publish reports to
the UltraQuest Library for use by other users.
The UltraQuest Library provides for shared reports. Through the Library, any
user, who is granted access, can view menus of available reports, choose one,
specify run-time options, including prompted parameters and output destinations,
and execute it.
Like UltraQuest Reporter, the processing can be either immediate or delayed, and
the output can be delivered to email, back to the Web browser, to mainframe
attached printers, or to the holding area for subsequent viewing and
redistribution.
The Library provides a much simpler interface for casual users, and does not
require any skills, or software beyond a Web browser.
In addition to reports built within the Reporter, the Library can contain
hand-crafted reports (built with NOMAD or the UltraQuest 4GL), links to
UltraQuest Applications and links to other Web sites and Web pages. Access to
reports, as well as publishing rights, are managed by a catalog of users and
user groups.

PDF Output |
 |
UltraQuest now provides the ability for you to
produce PDF (Portable Document Format) output directly from UltraQuest Reporter.
Standard Reporter dialogs can be used to guide you in the creation of a PDF
document from a standard text or formatted report. A formatted report can use
proportional fonts and you can highlight text by changing its color, by changing
the background color, or by modifying its font style.
With UltraQuest Library, users can run reports to produce
output in PDF format for viewing in their browser. Adobe PDF files are known for
their excellent document handling including superior printer support from the
desktop. The free Adobe Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com |

 |
 |
Report Folders |
 |
To improve organization within a Reporter
catalog, your report requests can now, optionally, be stored in report
folders. You can choose which folder to store a report in when saving a request
or you can move them between folders as you see fit. As sub-folders can be
created within each folder, and as maintenance capabilities for copying, moving,
renaming, and deleting report folders and report requests are available, you
have a powerful facility for managing your requests. |
 |
 |
 |
UltraQuest Scheduling
Facilities |
 |
UltraQuest Reporter and Library requests can now
be scheduled for batch processing on a recurrent basis dependent on production
or personal schedules. The UltraQuest Scheduler will submit your requests to
batch for execution based on a user-specified frequency (every Friday, the last
day of the month, etc.).
In addition, each site has the ability to define their own calendar, i.e. define
what are their normal working days as well as holidays, which can affect when
jobs are run. Users have the ability to decide what should happen if the job is
scheduled for a non-working day. |

request for batch processing as part of a production job, the user will be
provided with the following dialog to complete. |

| There can be multiple jobs run, one
for each application. These jobs may be run as part of the site’s production
process at the discretion of the site. Some sites may want to run these jobs
after the production updates have completed for that day to ensure that all data
will be current. |
 |
The personal scheduler provides
flexibility in scheduling when jobs are run and is not tied to production runs.
For example, you would be able to schedule a job to run weekly on Monday and
Friday at 08:00 AM. |
 |
 |
 |
| A third party scheduling package is
used to manage running these jobs as part of the production process. |

Email Improvements |
 |
The UltraQuest Reporter provides support for
mid-tier email servers , e.g. UNIX or Windows servers. (OS/390 only). |
 |
 |
 |
ICOM Server
Performance |
| |
In 4.5, the ICOM Server is enhanced to provide
for improved handling of large reports in the Output Redirector. ICOM supports
"chunked output" in the browser so that output is delivered sooner in
chunks rather than materializing the entire file first before displaying it in
the browser. |
 |
 |
 |
Centralized
Configuration |
| |
To simplify setup and configuration, UltraQuest
4.5 is centralizing more of its configuration facilities. The previous WBCONFIG
4GL file is being replaced by an UQCONFIG ini-style file so that it is easier to
use and modify. Previous batch user exit, printer user exit, and database
activation user exit information can now be set directly in UQCONFIG. |
 |
 |
 |
User Interface &
Other Improvements |
| |
 |
 |

 |
The Output Redirector is enhanced to provide page
support. This allows users to browse by page or to print a range of pages. |

 |
The overall look of the all the browser
components of UltraQuest have been improved. |
 |
Navigation through the user registration has also
been simplified. |

 |
Online help is now available on UltraQuest
Library for the run-time parameters panel. |
 |
Job Information Summary Listing is enhanced to
include the following: |
|
Users can now resubmit their batch requests. |

|
A new admin. facility is provided so the
administrator can view and manage the jobs of other users. |

|
Filters have been added so that one can look at
just certain types of jobs, for example, jobs started or completed, jobs with
listing output or worksheet output, or jobs with a certain start or end date.
One filter can be combined with others for further screening. |

 |
Configuration Guide |
 |
The new Configuration Guide was created to
improve the UltraQuest install and configuration process. It consolidates
configuration information from the UltraQuest Installation Guides and
Administration Guide into one manual to make it much simpler and more
straight-forward to install and configure the product with the features used by
most sites. |
|
|
 |
|
 |
UltraQuest Applications (previously named RP/Web) supports the building and
delivery of custom Web applications using mainframe data. These applications can
implement custom logic and interfaces. They can reference data and use the same
reporting functions as the Reporter, but can also build dialogs, use Javascript,
update databases, and access other mainframe resources. UltraQuest Applications
makes the full capabilities of the UltraQuest 4GL (or NOMAD) available.
 |
|
 |
| |
 |
PDF Output |
 |
With UltraQuest Applications, reports may now be
delivered to browser users as PDF documents. |
