Zachman Definition
"Semantic
Model"
This
is a model of the actual
Enterprise
things (objects, assets) that are significant to the
Enterprise. It typically would be represented as an "E/R "-type
model and would be at a level of definition that it would express concepts
(terms and facts) used in the significant business objectives/strategies
that would later be implemented as "Business Rules".
Select Perspective
During projects using the Select Perspective a Business Information
Model (BIM) is constructed which depicts the business objects, their scope
with respect to Business Components and the relationships between
them.
This model is an 'E/R'-type
model using UML which only contains, essentially, data.
The BIM from projects could be
copied from project models to the Enterprise model using Select Model Copy and then collated and rationalized to form the Enterprise
Business Data model.
However, such an Enterprise
model would invariably be quite large. The following is a
BIM from a relatively small project:

However, Select Business Solutions recommend copying the diagrams from project models to the
Enterprise model and then creating seperate diagrams for each UML Package
ie:

Each package is drawn with it's
Business Classes and the classes immediately related to it; the owning
package of the 'external' related classes can be seen from the name ie
Party.Supplier.
Also, if even this level of
detail becomes too great to manage easily, the class attibutes can be
selectively hidden in order to make the diagram more readable for those
not interested in that level of detail:

These diagrams are simply
different views onto the Business data model and because they are all
constructed from the same model dictionary elements, consistency is
maintained.
The Business data model may be
documented in a similar way to that in the Scope-Data cell using Select Document Generator.
