Business Model-Function

Zachman Definition

"The Business Process Model"

This is a model of the actual Business Processes that the Enterprise performs, quite independent of any "system" or implementation considerations and any organizational constraints.  It can be represented as a "structured methods"-style model expressing the business transformations (processes) and their inputs and outputs.

Select Perspective

The Select Perspective requires the modelling of the actual Business Processes that projects are scoped to, quite independent of any "system" or implementation considerations, as part of the Business Alignment phase of the Consume Workflow of the Supply, Manage and Consume (SMaC) Service and Component Based Development model.

Select Business Solutions recommends that the resulting Business Process Hierarchies and Business Process Threads be used as the basis of the Zachman Busuness Function product.  In this way, a coherent Enterprise Business Process Model can be built and maintained and parts of it may be used for scoping future projects.

The notation recommended for the Business Process Modelling (BPM) is a subset of the CSC Catalyst method; each BPM artefact being fully described in terms of inputs, transformations and outputs.

Select Solution Factory

Use the Process Thread diagram in Select Architect to construct the Business Process Flows, triggered by Business Events and showing which part of the organization or role is responsible for fullfilling the needs of the processes.  Any new Business Processes should be added to the Process Hierarchy diagrams produced in the Scope-Function cell.

Below is an example of the business process metrics that may be captured in SCA:

The Select Document Generator may be used to produce a fully detailed report for all BPM artefacts.
